When in doubt, REWIRE IT!

NEW?  CLICK HERE FOR DAY ONE!

THANK YOU FOR OVER 10,000 HITS ON MY BLOG!

This week in Todd's Garage I decided to rewire part of the electrical system to reduce the amperage flow through the ignition key switch.  After a drive, I would notice notice the ignition key would be hot when shutting off the car, in the past this heat has deformed an internal plastic part of the switch and caused it to fail.  What I did to avoid this problem is I took the main electrical supply wire after the switch and instead of it powering up the Honda fuse block, made it turn on a relay switch.  That way the main load flows through the relay and not the more expensive, difficult to swap and harder to acquire ignition switch.  If the relay does fail, it can be changed on the fly in just a few seconds with a spare.
Other than that, I have just been putting more miles on the car due to the PNW having some fantastic weather.

Tires!

NEW?  CLICK HERE FOR DAY ONE!

This week I received my new tires, the old ones are on the way out and having fun in the "process".
I also started to hear a ticking sound and tracked it down to a sloppy crankshaft pulley.  Had to replace that before driving any longer or risk damage to the crank.  Picked up a good one on E-Bay and made a tool for about $8 out of plumbing parts.

Race rubber! I need all the grip I can get.

Ten inch rubber.

For comparison, the 4Runner has 17inch rims.

New mirror mount came with the tires, mounted that.

My crankshaft pulley tool.

Old pulley that had a bit of wear on the inside.

I added a bit of weld to keep the tool sitting straight.
